Visit to the Institute of Sun in honor of World Earth Day

As part of the celebration of World Earth Day 2025, which this year takes place under the global theme "Energy of our Planet", on April 19, 2025, UMPT employees took part in excursion to the Physics and Technology Institute of Sun of the Sciences Academy in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

This event was timed to coincide with the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy. The trip was organized by the Department of Ecology in order to increase environmental literacy and broaden understanding of renewable energy sources.

The Solar Physics Institute is a leading scientific center engaged in physical research both in the field of fundamental science and the development of highly efficient technologies in the field of renewable energy sources, solar materials science, and instrumentation.

During the visit, the participants got acquainted with the activities of the institute, its main areas of scientific research, as well as modern achievements in the field of solar energy. Special attention was drawn to a unique scientific facility — a large solar furnace with a capacity of 1000 kW. It is a complex optical and mechanical complex with an automated control system consisting of a heliostatic field and a paraboloid concentrator. These elements form a stationary stream of high—density solar radiation, reaching temperatures up to 3000°C, in the focus on the technological tower. There are two similar installations in the world. A similar solar oven is located in France.

The tour was conducted by Javokhir Zafarovich Shermatov, Doctor of Technical Sciences (PhD), who spoke in detail about the developments, ongoing projects and the importance of solar energy for sustainable development.

The event was not only interesting and informative, but also reminded of the importance of caring for the environment and the rational use of natural resources.
