Casting of the First Locally Produced Cylinder Blocks

May 28, 2024, Tashkent

JSC “UzAuto Motors Powertrain,” part of JSC “Uzavtosanoat,” has produced the first locally cast cylinder blocks for further validation at General Motors Korea. After validation, the blocks will enter serial production over the next three months for the assembly of the new CSS Prime engines, which are used in the production of domestic Chevrolet Onix and Tracker vehicles at UzAuto Motors in Asaka.

The new cylinder block melting and processing complex includes all stages of aluminum processing, namely: melting; high-pressure die casting; painting; initial mechanical processing; and precision mechanical processing. The organization of aluminum cylinder block casting and further precision processing will enable the company to reduce imports by $24.7 million and decrease production costs by $4.7 million.

It is worth noting that in 2022-2023, UzAuto Motors Powertrain mastered the assembly and mechanical processing of atmospheric CSS Prime 1.2 LIF engines with a power of 66 kW (89 hp) and turbocharged CSS Prime 1.2 L4H engines with a power of 97 kW (131 hp). The investment in the CSS Prime project amounted to approximately $170 million, allowing the plant's production capacity to reach 415,000 internal combustion engines per year.

Engineering support for the cylinder block localization project was provided by KS Huayu AluTech GmbH, part of Rheinmetall AG (Germany) and Huayu Automotive Systems Co. Ltd. (HASCO, China).
